The Ministry of Communication Technology and Innovation officially launched its highly anticipated 2025 Boot Camp in Bo District on Monday, March 17, as part of the Big 5 Innovation Investment Challenge. The event marked a significant milestone in the government’s commitment to fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and technological advancement across Sierra Leone.
The annual program, organized by the ministry, brings together aspiring innovators and entrepreneurs from across the country to develop solutions to pressing socio-economic challenges. This year’s edition focuses on identifying and supporting individuals with groundbreaking business ideas that address key issues affecting young people.
The launch ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including the Director of Innovation, Jesse Kamara, who delivered the keynote address on behalf of the Minister of Communication Technology and Innovation, Mrs. Salima Bah. In his speech, Mr. Kamara underscored the crucial role of innovation and technology in driving economic growth and creating sustainable job opportunities, particularly for the youth.

“The Big 5 Innovation Investment Challenge Boot Camp is a platform designed to empower the next generation of innovators and entrepreneurs,” he stated. “Through this program, we aim to equip participants with the necessary skills and resources to turn their ideas into viable businesses that will contribute to the country’s socio-economic development.”
The five-day boot camp includes training on business pitching, product development, and business model structuring, providing participants with hands-on experience and mentorship from industry experts.
Alimamy Kamara, a participant representing De-Wizzard Business Enterprise in Bo, shared his experience at the boot camp.
“I have gained a lot since the start of the program—learning how to pitch a business idea, create a business model canvas, and develop products. With these skills, I am confident that my final presentation will be impactful,” he said.
The Boot Camp is part of a broader initiative to build a thriving innovation ecosystem in Sierra Leone. Participants will compete in regional competitions, with successful candidates advancing to the semi-finals in Freetown. The challenge aims to identify and support high-potential startups that could make a significant impact both nationally and globally.
Attendees expressed excitement about the opportunities provided, with many local entrepreneurs appreciating the government’s efforts to support the innovation sector. The program also offers transportation allowances, food provisions, and mentorship opportunities, ensuring participants receive the necessary support to refine their ideas.
As Sierra Leone advances toward a digital future, initiatives like the Big 5 Innovation Investment Challenge play a pivotal role in nurturing the country’s next generation of technology and business leaders. The Ministry of Communication Technology and Innovation, led by Mrs. Salima Bah, remains committed to fostering an environment that encourages creativity, investment, and entrepreneurship.
