The Minister of Internal Affairs, Morie Lengor Esq., today welcomed the Chinese Ambassador, Wang Qing, and his team during a courtesy visit to his office on bilateral cooperation.

The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Republic of Sierra Leone, His Excellency Wang Qing, stated that his visit aimed to underline the significance of the bilateral cooperation between the two countries. He applauded the Government for their sustainable support of this cooperation, particularly in protecting the Chinese community in Sierra Leone. He expressed gratitude for the Ministry’s continuous support to his Embassy and highlighted major achievements of China’s cooperation in various spheres, such as infrastructure projects at the national stadium, Youyi Building, and the Foreign Service Academy, among others.

According to the Ambassador, this cooperation will provide strategic guidance for their bilateral relations. He also discussed foreign investment projects, focusing on their contributions to Sierra Leone’s employment and revenue generation. Additionally, he elaborated on capacity building and collaboration in enforcement between China and other key institutions.

Ambassador Qing appreciated the Ministry for their close and fruitful working relationship and expressed optimism for a shared future of mutual development and prosperity. He reaffirmed China’s commitment to deepening China-Africa cooperation for the benefit of both countries.

In his response, Minister Lengor Esq., on behalf of the President, His Excellency Brig. Rtd. Julius Maada Bio, expressed sincere gratitude to Ambassador Wang Qing for his visit and appreciated China’s numerous support efforts over the years. He acknowledged the comprehensive review of their strategic relationship, which has spanned decades, and recognized the extensive efforts involved in fostering this valuable bilateral cooperation. He highlighted the ongoing process of further strengthening cooperation between the two countries.

The Minister informed the Ambassador about the agencies and departments under his Ministry’s purview and underscored his vision for developing a Strategic Master Plan (SMP) to guide the Ministry in service delivery. He disclosed that the SMP is now in its final draft, with inputs from all heads of agencies and departments. He noted that external consultations and partner support would also be solicited.

Minister Lengor Esq. emphasized the importance of strategic bilateral cooperation between the two countries. He stated that China’s investments are visibly supporting them but noted that protecting these investments falls under the Ministry’s responsibility for internal security. To ensure the stability and security of these investments, he stressed the need for a symbiotic relationship between the investment and security sectors.

The Minister further expanded his discussions by seeking support for his Ministry and its agencies, particularly in areas such as mobility, logistics, and equipment for the National Fire Force, enabling them to promptly respond to fire incidents and other security-related issues.

He concluded by pledging his Ministry’s close collaboration and support to the Embassy, assuring them of a stronger and more fruitful relationship.

The two sides had an in-depth and productive engagement on bilateral cooperation and relations. The meeting culminated with the presentation of a gift from Ambassador Qing to Minister Lenger Esq. in recognition of his appointment.
