COPENHAGEN, DENMARK – In a strategic diplomatic engagement, Sierra Leone’s Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, has reinforced Africa’s development priorities on the global stage, securing renewed Danish commitment to international aid despite rising uncertainties in global funding.
Speaking at a high-level conference hosted by Save the Children and Plan International Denmark, Minister Bah urged Denmark to maintain its 0.7% Gross National Income (GNI) commitment to global development, positioning Africa as a strategic partner in fostering global stability, economic growth, and climate resilience.
Positioning Africa as a Strategic Partner
Minister Bah’s address sought to shift the narrative of Africa from being a recipient of aid to a key partner in global development and security. He argued that investment in human capital, education, and economic empowerment is not just an act of goodwill but a necessary step toward global prosperity and stability.
“The world cannot afford to view Africa merely as an aid-dependent continent. Our future is intertwined. Investing in Africa means investing in a more stable, prosperous, and resilient global economy,” Minister Bah stated.
His remarks come at a critical time when major donors, including USAID and the UK, are reconsidering their financial commitments to international development. Minister Bah cautioned against these cutbacks, warning of their long-term consequences on global security, migration, and economic cooperation.

Denmark’s Renewed Commitment to Africa
Danish political leaders responded with a strong show of support, reaffirming their dedication to maintaining the 0.7% GNI target and expanding their focus on:
- Education and gender equality, with a special emphasis on girls’ empowerment.
- Trade and economic collaboration, encouraging African nations to remove trade barriers to foster investment.
- Climate resilience and sustainability, addressing shared environmental challenges.
Danish Finance Minister Nicolai Wammen, a global champion for Education Cannot Wait, echoed Minister Bah’s call for inclusive education, stating, “Ensuring access to education for all children regardless of background is not an option; it is a responsibility.”
Strengthening Africa-Europe Relations
Beyond development aid, Minister Bah’s advocacy has helped strengthen Africa’s relationship with Denmark and Europe. His engagement signals a new diplomatic direction, where African nations assert their role as equal partners in addressing global challenges.
Denmark’s renewed commitment marks a pivotal moment in international cooperation, reinforcing the belief that sustainable development is a shared global responsibility. With voices like Minister Bah leading the conversation, Africa’s future is not just about aid – but about strategic partnerships for long-term progress.
