In a move that underscores continuity and confidence in leadership, President Julius Maada Bio has reappointed Dr. Walton Gilpin as Managing Director of Rokel Commercial Bank (RCB). The reappointment, formalized through a letter signed by State House Secretary Barba Fortune, marks a new chapter for the banker who has steered the institution through remarkable financial transformation.
Dr. Gilpin expressed gratitude to God and extended appreciation to President Bio for entrusting him once again with the top job at one of Sierra Leone’s leading financial institutions.
During his previous tenure, Gilpin played a pivotal role in strengthening the bank’s financial base, increasing its capital from Le 91 billion to Le 271 billion a feat that positioned RCB as the first commercial bank in the country to surpass the Central Bank’s recapitalization threshold within just one year.
RCB currently operates 18 branches and 9 outlets nationwide, with Gilpin leading an aggressive push to enhance financial inclusion. His administration introduced innovative banking services, expanded ATM access, and rolled out customer-friendly digital platforms to bring banking closer to underserved populations.
Notably, Gilpin is championing the bank’s regional expansion, with plans underway to establish a presence in Liberia. This bold move aligns with RCB’s long-term vision to become a competitive financial institution within the ECOWAS sub-region, leveraging technology and strategic partnerships.
Gilpin’s reappointment is widely viewed as a nod to his transformative leadership and a signal of continued reforms in Sierra Leone’s banking sector.
