The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) is mourning the tragic loss of three officers who died in a highway patrol accident during a routine operation. The crash, which also left several officers injured, has drawn widespread public sympathy and sparked speculation regarding the nature of the officers’ assignment.

Senior police officials have strongly refuted claims circulating on social media that the deceased were part of a presidential convoy. Assistant Inspector General of Police and Director of Operations, Dr. John Martin Senessie, clarified that the officers were members of the highway patrol unit tasked with enforcing traffic laws and ensuring road safety.

“They were not attached to the presidential convoy, as has been alleged,” Dr. Senessie said. “They were carrying out their normal duties when this unfortunate accident occurred.”

Dr. Senessie confirmed that the injured officers are receiving medical care and assured the public that police leadership is providing full support during their recovery.

Describing the incident as a devastating loss, the SLP paid tribute to the fallen officers, highlighting their dedication and commitment to duty. The force emphasized that the officers died in the line of service, underlining the daily risks faced by law enforcement personnel in protecting lives and property.
