In a proactive move to enhance road safety and enforce traffic discipline, the District Traffic Officer (DTO) of the Kambia Police Division, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr Brima Ansumana Vandy, together with his dedicated traffic operations team, on Tuesday carried out a demarcation exercise at the Kambia District Central Motorbike Park.
The initiative forms part of an ongoing public awareness campaign targeting motorbike riders and drivers, aimed at preventing road traffic accidents and promoting strict adherence to traffic rules and regulations. The demarcation lines were drawn to clearly identify designated parking areas, thereby discouraging the use of public streets as waiting or parking points for passengers particularly along busy routes used by travelers crossing the border.
ASP Mr Vandy and his team were warmly received by the executive members of the motorbike riders’ union, who actively supported the exercise and participated in drawing the demarcation lines. The collaboration underscored a shared commitment between the police and transport operators to maintain an orderly, safe, and accident-free environment within the district.
Speaking during the exercise, the Operations Traffic Officer of Kambia Police Division, Chief Inspector Rashid Jalloh, issued a strong warning to riders who persistently violate traffic laws. He cautioned against overloading, reckless riding, over-speeding, riding without crash helmets, and operating unregistered or unlicensed motorbikes, stressing that such practices pose serious risks to public safety.

Chief Inspector Jalloh further urged riders to respect road signs, avoid parking in prohibited areas, and desist from the secret consumption of harmful substances, including tramadol, cannabis sativa, and kush, which impair judgment and increase the likelihood of road accidents. He emphasized the importance of using the newly drawn demarcation lines to maintain proper parking order and reduce congestion on public roads.
“Let us maintain the demarcation lines, respect traffic laws and road signs, and stop using the streets as parking places to avoid road accidents,” Chief Inspector Jalloh stated.
Other traffic officers present also encouraged riders to comply fully with traffic regulations as a collective responsibility to ensure a traffic-free district and a stable security atmosphere.
At the conclusion of the exercise and engagement on traffic-related offences, motorbike riders and other relevant stakeholders expressed their appreciation to ASP Mr Brima Ansumana Vandy and his team for their proactive approach to traffic management and road safety awareness. Riders pledged to comply with the directives, monitor their respective parks, and promptly report any suspicious or traffic-related violations.
The Kambia Police Division reaffirmed its commitment to sustained community engagement and proactive enforcement to promote road safety across the district.
