Kao Denero Calls Music Reforms

Sierra Leone’s entertainment landscape may be on the verge of a significant transformation, thanks to a bold proposal from one of its most prominent figures. Amara Denis Turay, widely known by his stage name Kao Denero, has stepped forward with a plan to introduce formal regulations designed to strengthen and professionalize the country’s music and entertainment industry.

In a recent interview with AYV Television, Kao Denero outlined his vision for a more structured entertainment ecosystem one that emphasizes respect among artists, fair treatment, and equitable compensation. The veteran performer and entertainment ambassador stressed that these measures are not intended to stifle creativity but rather to ensure that the industry operates with professionalism and integrity.

One of the cornerstone proposals is the prohibition of public insults and derogatory remarks among artists during performances. Kao Denero noted that on-stage feuds and personal attacks have, over time, contributed to unnecessary tension and division within the local entertainment community. “Artists should compete in talent, not in disrespect,” he emphasized. “Our audiences deserve professionalism, and our colleagues deserve respect.” The proposed framework suggests sanctions for violations, ranging from warnings to temporary bans from participating in entertainment events, as a way to maintain order and uphold industry standards.

Equity in earnings also forms a central part of Kao Denero’s recommendations. The ambassador highlighted a persistent challenge in Sierra Leone: the large gap between what foreign and local artists receive for similar performances. According to him, some event promoters offer exorbitant fees to foreign acts while paying local performers only a fraction of that amount, creating an uneven playing field. The new guidelines aim to establish a fairer payment structure that rewards national talent appropriately and encourages the growth of local artistry.

Beyond regulatory matters, Kao Denero reflected on his own journey in the music industry, sharing insights into his career, personal development, and the importance of building strong, collaborative relationships with other artists. He emphasized that his role as Sierra Leone’s Entertainment Ambassador carries not only the responsibility of promoting the arts but also the duty to guide the industry toward sustainable growth. “I’ve learned that music is more than performance; it’s a platform to inspire, unite, and elevate our culture,” he remarked.

Kao Denero’s proposal has sparked conversations among artists, promoters, and industry stakeholders about the future of entertainment in Sierra Leone. Many see it as a timely intervention aimed at professionalizing the sector and ensuring that local talent receives the recognition and financial reward it deserves. Critics, however, caution that the success of such regulations will depend on careful implementation, collaboration with artists, and consistent enforcement.

Industry observers note that structured guidelines, when applied thoughtfully, could open doors to increased investment, international collaborations, and a stronger reputation for Sierra Leonean music on the global stage. As the conversation continues, the ambassador’s proposal represents a crucial step toward building a more organized, fair, and thriving entertainment industry in the country.

For Kao Denero, the message is clear: respect, equity, and professionalism are not optional they are essential pillars for the future of Sierra Leone’s music and entertainment sector.
