The Government of Sierra Leone has firmly dismissed any speculation surrounding a third-term presidential agenda, Minister of Information and Civic Education Chernor Bah has said.

Speaking at a press briefing held on Tuesday, 27th January 2026, at the Miatta Civic Centre, Minister Bah reaffirmed the government’s commitment to democratic governance and constitutional reform, stressing that President Julius Maada Bio has no intention of seeking a third term in office.

According to the Minister, this is the first time the country has not been consumed by debates over a possible third-term presidency, a situation he attributed to President Bio’s clear and consistent respect for the constitutional two-term limit.

“He has made it unequivocally clear that a third-term agenda will not be entertained,” Minister Bah said.

He further explained that the ongoing Constitutional Review Process is being conducted in the national interest and not for political gain. The Bill currently before Parliament, presented by the Attorney General, he noted, primarily addresses election-related issues, while other constitutional reforms requiring a referendum will be introduced at a later stage.

Minister Bah assured citizens that the government remains focused on strengthening democracy, upholding the rule of law, and ensuring that constitutional reforms reflect the will of the people.
