Chairman Songa Declares
The Chairman of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), Mr. Jimmy Batilo Songa, has declared that there must be no camps within the Sierra Leone People’s Party, emphasizing that the newly elected executive must work together as one united team.
Chairman Songa stressed that while disagreements are natural within any family, such differences must be managed with dignity and respect. He noted that the SLPP is too important to Sierra Leone’s national destiny to allow minor issues to grow into major problems that could create division within the party.
He disclosed that the work of the newly elected executive has already begun and called on members to desist from camps and factionalism. He urged all party members to focus on uniting the party, eliminating all forms of campism, and collectively implementing the agenda of the SLPP.
According to Chairman Songa, party leaders, members, supporters, Sierra Leoneans, and the international community are closely watching the SLPP. He further pointed out that His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio, who is the Leader of the SLPP and also serves as Chairman of ECOWAS, represents the party on both national and international platforms, making unity within the party more critical than ever, at this time, unity must always remain our culture.
He assured party members that he will lead with fairness, discipline, and efficiency, with the goal of unifying the party and strengthening the bonds that hold it together as one family. He pledged to always follow the directives of the party’s leadership and to work tirelessly to ensure that the SLPP remains in power come 2028.
He further noted that while members may have different roles and responsibilities, the party’s primary focus must be to unite, uphold the legacy of the SLPP, and prepare the party for the future of Sierra Leone.
“Today’s event is not just a celebration; it is an affirmation of our collective readiness, that why this newly elected body will continue to provide stability and steer the party in the right direction. It also signals the beginning of a leadership rooted in unity, discipline, service delivery, and accountability.”
He concluded by reaffirming the party’s commitment to the core principles of the SLPP, noting that the future the party desires will not come by chance but must be built carefully, deliberately, and collectively.
“That future can only be achieved if we do it together,” he said.
