NPRA Warns Against Fuel Price Violation

The National Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NPRA) has issued a public notice reaffirming that it remains the sole institution authorized to announce petroleum pump prices in Sierra Leone, while urging petroleum dealers and the public to adhere strictly to the approved national price structure.

In a press statement released to clarify public concerns regarding fuel pricing, the authority emphasized that any official announcement regarding petroleum pump prices must come directly from the NPRA, in consultation with the Ministry of Trade and Industry (Sierra Leone) and the Ministry of Finance (Sierra Leone).

According to the regulator, the approved pump price for both petrol and diesel currently remains at NLe 32.00 per litre nationwide. The agency noted that this price remains valid across all districts and must be respected by petroleum marketing companies, fuel dealers, and service stations operating throughout the country.

The authority further reassured the public that there is adequate stock of petroleum products available across Sierra Leone, dismissing fears of potential shortages. The NPRA stated that the current fuel supply situation remains stable and sufficient to meet the needs of consumers and businesses.

In its notice, the regulator also issued a stern warning to petroleum dealers against engaging in illegal practices such as hoarding fuel or selling petroleum products above the officially approved price. The NPRA cautioned that any dealer found violating the regulations would face the full penalties prescribed under national laws governing the petroleum sector.

The authority stressed that such measures are necessary to protect consumers and maintain stability within the country’s petroleum market. It added that regulatory monitoring and compliance checks will continue across fuel stations to ensure adherence to government directives.

The NPRA reiterated its commitment to maintaining fair pricing, transparency, and uninterrupted fuel supply for citizens, noting that the regulation of pump prices plays a critical role in safeguarding the national economy and supporting the daily transportation and energy needs of the population.

As the country continues to manage economic pressures affecting global fuel markets, the regulator called on the public to rely only on verified information from official government sources regarding petroleum price adjustments.

The NPRA concluded by encouraging citizens to report any fuel station found selling above the approved pump price, assuring that the authority will continue working closely with relevant government institutions to ensure stability, fairness, and accountability within Sierra Leone’s petroleum sector.
