Police at Wanjama Checkpoint Intercept Drugs Smuggling Attempt

Kenema, March 4, 2025 – Security personnel at Wanjama Checkpoint have intercepted a major drug smuggling attempt, arresting three individuals attempting to transport a large quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Jamba into Kenema City.

The suspects, identified as Isatu Barrie, a businesswoman from Samuel Town, Freetown; Hassan Kamara, the driver of the vehicle from No. 2 Lookies Street, Freetown; and Fatmata Kamara, another businesswoman from Waterloo Camp, Freetown, were found in possession of the illegal substance, which had been cleverly concealed within bags of groundnuts to evade detection.

According to Sergeant Mohamed Massaquoi, Officer-in-Charge of Wanjama Checkpoint, the alertness and professionalism of the security personnel led to the discovery of the drugs before they could reach their intended destination.

Regional Crime Officer ASP Mohamed Hindolo Feika commended the vigilance of the checkpoint officers, emphasizing the importance of sustained efforts to curb drug trafficking in the region. He reiterated the police’s commitment to ensuring a crime-free Eastern Region.

The interception follows a recent security briefing led by the newly transferred AIG-East, Mr. Francis Moses Tower, who urged all commanders and personnel to intensify their efforts in safeguarding the region.

The suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with ongoing investigations. Authorities have assured the public of continued updates as the probe progresses.
