Elfrida E.F. Kebe, a young and influential female student at Fatima Campus, has taken an audacious move by vying for this year’s Students’ Representative Council (SRC) Secretary-General position at the University of Makeni.
Kebe, the only female candidate for the Secretary-General position, is contesting against Computer Science’s Alhaji Maligie Conteh and Law Society’s Alusine Serry Kamara, both from the Sylvanus Koroma Campus.
While she is running under the ticket of the ruling Students’ Resurgence Movement, Elfrida has further received a prodigious boost from her Mass Communication Department, being described as “very supportive and friendly”.
A senior member of the AMCU Interim Executive, who preferred to remain anonymous, praised Kebe’s supportive personality, acknowledging the timely Five Hundred Leones (NLe 500) donation they received, which significantly helped in preparations for their annual Meet & Greet event, scheduled for Friday, January 16, 2025, at the Fatima Campus.
“Ella has further purchased 10 giveaway tickets up for grabs by students from other departments,” he added.
Elizabeth Kamara, a member of the Mass Communication Year 3 Class, stated that Ella’s competence remains the driving force behind supporting her classmate.
“She’s capable of delivering and providing us a student-centred representation,” Kamara affirmed.
One of the Mass Communication Class Representatives, who also requested anonymity, endorsed Kebe’s candidacy and called on potential delegates from other departments to prioritise public interest over political propaganda and sentiment.
“Let’s make it happen for the common good,” he called.
Kebe, an alumnus of the Annie Walsh Memorial School, is a brilliant student in the Mass Communication Department, scoring a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.69 for the 2024/25 academic year, among the criteria that validate her candidacy.
Again, she has etched her name in the department’s public speaking history, finishing as a finalist of the 2024 Abdul Charles Mansaray Debating Championship organised for Year 1 students in the second semester of every academic calendar in the last five years.
Elfrida E.F. Kebe, in a determined and confident tone, called on her supporters to remain calm and assured them of delivering the desired victory through the Students’ Resurgence Movement.
“Eyes on the ball, let’s remain focused on achieving our goal,” she accentuated.
The 2026 University of Makeni Students’ Representative Council election is scheduled for Saturday, January 17, 2026, commencing at 9:00 A.M. and closing at 12:00 P.M.
Mohamed Wahab Kamara, the Dean of Students, has published a list of nine qualified candidates from eight departments eyeing the Chairperson, Vice Chairperson and Secretary-General positions respectively.
