The Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone has once again demonstrated its commitment to peace, security, and strong bilateral cooperation by donating assorted food items to the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) as a morale booster ahead of the festive season.

The donation, presented at police headquarters, included 250 bags of 25-kilogram rice, 20 bags of 50-kilogram sugar, and 40 gallons of cooking oil. The support comes at a crucial time when police personnel are expected to intensify patrols, crowd control, and public safety operations during the busy end-of-year celebrations.

Presenting the items, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy, Zhang Dianbin, said the gesture reflects the enduring friendship and cooperation between the governments and peoples of China and Sierra Leone, particularly in the area of peace and security. He noted that China recognises the central role of the SLP in maintaining national stability and ensuring that citizens and residents can celebrate in a safe and secure environment.

According to Zhang, the donation forms part of China’s continued support to national institutions, especially those tasked with safeguarding lives and property. He stressed that periods such as the festive season require heightened vigilance, dedication, and sacrifice from police officers, adding that boosting their welfare and morale is essential to effective policing.

He commended the leadership and personnel of the SLP for their professionalism and resilience in maintaining peace across the country, despite numerous challenges. He further expressed confidence that the donated items would encourage officers to remain committed and motivated as they carry out their duties throughout the holidays.

Receiving the donation on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, the Director of Operations, John Martin Senessie, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Chinese government and people for what he described as a timely and thoughtful intervention.

Quoting the popular saying, “An empty bag cannot stand,” AIG Senessie emphasised that the welfare of police personnel is directly linked to their performance and effectiveness. He explained that such support not only boosts morale but also reinforces officers’ sense of value and recognition as they work long hours to protect communities during the festive period.

He described the donation as particularly significant, noting that police officers often make personal sacrifices by staying away from their families to ensure public safety. According to him, the donated food items will go a long way in supporting officers and their families, thereby strengthening their resolve to serve with dedication.

AIG Senessie assured the Chinese Embassy that the items would be distributed and utilised judiciously, in line with the SLP’s principles of accountability, transparency, and professionalism. He reaffirmed the force’s commitment to providing effective and people-centred policing services before, during, and after the festive season.

The donation once again highlights the cordial and longstanding relationship between China and Sierra Leone and underscores the Chinese Embassy’s continued support to state institutions. It also reflects a shared commitment to promoting peace, security, and social stability, particularly at a time when public safety remains critical to national development and social harmony.
