Tension is mounting in Segbwema, Njaluahun Chiefdom, following disturbing allegations that some military officers believed to be supporting  Paramount Chieftaincy aspirant, *Colonel Musa Gbow*, where members of the Jajua family were attacked and assaulted and injured on the early hours of Friday 17 April, 2026.

According to eyewitness accounts, three civilians were reportedly attacked during the incident, leaving them with varying degrees of injuries. Most concerning is the case of a *12-year-old boy child* who allegedly sustained a broken hand, sparking outrage among residents and raising serious concerns about the safety of vulnerable individuals amid the ongoing chieftaincy election process.

Community members describe the atmosphere as increasingly volatile, with fear and uncertainty gripping parts of Segbwema. Residents have expressed frustration over what they perceive as the growing militarization of a traditionally peaceful local governance process.

The Njaluahun Paramount Chieftaincy election, which should symbolize unity and cultural continuity, is now at risk of being overshadowed by allegations of intimidation and violence. Civil society voices and local stakeholders are calling for calm, restraint, and respect for democratic norms.

There have also been growing calls for authorities, including the Sierra Leone Police and relevant military leadership, to launch a swift and transparent investigation into the alleged incident. Many are urging that those found responsible be held accountable, regardless of status or affiliation.

As of now, there has been no official statement from the military or representatives linked to *Colonel Musa Gbow* regarding the allegations and several efforts have been applied to get the side of the accused but to no avail.

This developing situation underscores the urgent need for peace, accountability, and the protection of civilians especially children as the chiefdom navigates this critical electoral period.

The matter is under investigation in Daru Police Station Daru Division Kailahun District.
