Nagpur Interfaith DialogueAddresses Human Rights, Religious Freedom, and Peace
On July 18, the Human Rights and Justice: An Interfaith Dialogue was held at the Swayamdeep Vipassana Centre in Nagpur, India.
Hosted by Dr. Beniram Koche, Director of the Jeevak Yoga Treatment and Vocational Training Institute, the event brought together religious leaders and representatives from human rights organizations to discuss human dignity, justice, and freedom of religion.
Participants shared teachings from their respective religious scriptures on human dignity, justice, and freedom of religion.During the discussion, participants emphasized that, despite differences in religious traditions, these values are commonly reflected across faiths.
The discussion also referred to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the Indian social reformer known for advocating equality before the law and challenging the caste system. It also featured a presentation on the peace-related activities of Man Hee Lee, Chairman of Shincheonji Church of Jesus and HWPL, a Korean War veteran and peace advocate.
Participants learned about his international peace initiatives, including his involvement in peace effortsin Mindanao, Philippines. The presentation also covered the current legal proceedings involving Chairman Lee in the Republic of Korea.Participants noted that judicial matters should be resolved through fair legal procedures and emphasized the importance of upholding the principles of human rights, due process, and freedom of religion in every case.
The United Nations Nelson Mandela Rules, which emphasize the humane treatment of elderly and medically vulnerable detainees, were also introduced during the session.At the conclusion of the event, participants voluntarily signed a petitioncalling for due process and the protection of freedom of religion in relation to the legal proceedings involving Chairman Lee.And religious leadersrecorded video messages expressing their commitment to peace and justice.
Dr. Beniram Koche stated, “Human dignity, justice, and freedom of religion are values that all people must uphold. I hope today’s dialogue will serve as a stepping stone toward greater international solidarity.”
