The National Revenue Authority (NRA) has welcomed the appointment of Abu Martin Kanneh as its new Commissioner General, with expectations that his leadership will further strengthen revenue mobilization, taxpayer compliance and the efficiency of the country’s revenue administration.
Mr. Kanneh’s appointment was announced as part of recent presidential appointments and comes at a time when the NRA is pursuing efforts to improve domestic revenue collection while providing better and more transparent services to taxpayers.
The new Commissioner General is not new to the institution. He joined the National Revenue Authority in 2004 as a Collector and has since built a long career within the organization, taking on increasingly senior responsibilities across different departments.
His professional journey within the NRA later saw him appointed Commissioner of the Customs Services Department, where he provided leadership in the administration and collection of customs duties. In that capacity, he was also responsible for overseeing border control and management operations while supporting measures aimed at facilitating legitimate trade and improving compliance.
Before his appointment as Commissioner General, Kanneh served as Senior Director of the Staff Welfare Department, adding experience in institutional administration and staff management to his background in customs and revenue operations.
His elevation to the top leadership position at the NRA comes amid growing emphasis on strengthening domestic resource mobilization and reducing revenue leakages. The Authority is also expected to continue improving taxpayer services, expanding compliance and ensuring that revenue administration is conducted in an efficient, accountable and transparent manner.
With more than two decades of experience within the NRA, Kanneh is expected to draw on his institutional knowledge and experience as he assumes responsibility for steering the Authority and supporting the government’s revenue-generation agenda.
The Board, senior management and staff of the National Revenue Authority have congratulated Mr. Kanneh on his appointment and expressed confidence in his ability to successfully lead the institution.
His new role places him at the centre of efforts to strengthen Sierra Leone’s revenue system, improve compliance and enhance the Authority’s contribution to national development.
As he begins his tenure, attention will now turn to how the new Commissioner General builds on ongoing reforms and translates the NRA’s revenue mobilization and compliance objectives into measurable results.
