For nearly two decades, Africell Sierra Leone has steadily built a reputation that extends beyond providing mobile telephone services. Across towns, cities, schools, football fields, concert venues, hospitals, places of worship, and community centers, the telecommunications giant has continued to position itself as a committed partner in Sierra Leone’s national development through strategic investments in people and communities.

Between January and June 2026 alone, the company sponsored more than 165 events nationwide, directly and indirectly benefiting over 30,000 Sierra Leoneans. These interventions covered key sectors including education, youth empowerment, entertainment, sports, health, religion, government initiatives, and community development, reinforcing Africell’s longstanding commitment to improving lives beyond telecommunications.

Speaking on the company’s extensive sponsorship activities, Senior Manager of Events and Sponsorship, Nancy Lucia Joseph Turay, explained that Africell’s investment strategy is intentionally focused on areas that contribute to long-term national growth and human capital development.

According to Madam Turay, education, entertainment, and youth empowerment represented the largest share of sponsored activities during the first half of 2026 because they remain essential pillars for nurturing talent, creating opportunities, and preparing the country’s future leaders.

“Our focus is not just on connecting people through technology, but also on connecting them with opportunities that transform lives. By investing in education, entertainment, and youth empowerment, we are contributing to the development of the next generation of Sierra Leoneans,” she stated.

She emphasized that Africell’s sponsorship philosophy goes far beyond corporate visibility or marketing objectives. Instead, she described sponsorship as an important way of giving back to the millions of Sierra Leoneans who have supported the company since it commenced operations in the country.

Madam Turay noted that the company has consistently maintained strong partnerships with educational institutions, youth organizations, musicians, sporting bodies, religious organizations, government ministries, health institutions, and community-based groups. These collaborations, she said, are designed to promote social inclusion, strengthen community resilience, encourage innovation, and support initiatives that positively impact people’s lives.

Reflecting on the company’s journey, she disclosed that Africell has maintained an active sponsorship programme since 2006, making community investment one of the cornerstones of its corporate identity. Over the years, the company has deliberately expanded its sponsorship portfolio to ensure that its support reaches diverse sectors of society and addresses a broad range of developmental needs.

According to her, the company’s balanced investment approach allows Africell to support both national and grassroots initiatives while strengthening relationships with institutions, stakeholders, and communities across Sierra Leone.

She further explained that every sponsorship decision is guided by the company’s vision of creating sustainable social value. Beyond providing reliable communication services, Africell seeks to inspire young people, promote creativity, support education, encourage healthy lifestyles, strengthen religious harmony, and contribute meaningfully to national progress.

The impact of these investments continues to be visible across the country. Students have benefited from educational programmes and academic competitions; young entrepreneurs and innovators have received platforms to showcase their ideas; sporting competitions have been strengthened through sponsorship; musicians and entertainers have gained opportunities to reach wider audiences; while health awareness campaigns and community outreach programmes have received vital corporate support.

Religious institutions and national development initiatives have also benefited from Africell’s continued partnership, reflecting the company’s inclusive approach to corporate social responsibility.

As Sierra Leone continues its journey toward sustainable development, private sector participation remains an essential component of national progress. Through its sustained investment in communities, Africell Sierra Leone continues to demonstrate that a telecommunications company can serve not only as a provider of digital connectivity but also as a reliable partner in social transformation.

With over 165 sponsored events and more than 30,000 beneficiaries recorded within just six months, Africell has once again reaffirmed its commitment to empowering people, supporting communities, nurturing talent, and contributing to Sierra Leone’s socio-economic development.

For many Sierra Leoneans, Africell has become more than a mobile network. It has evolved into a trusted development partner whose investments continue to create opportunities, inspire hope, and strengthen communities across the nation.
